Everyone loves brunch.
…Right? Usually I wouldn’t just generalize everyone, but I mean… what’s not to love? Recapping the dirty deets from the night before while nursing your hangover with runny yolks and bottomless bubbles? Call me a millennial, but it just doesn’t get much better than that.
Since brunch is by far the most important (and most fun) meal of the week, I plan on treating it with the respect it deserves by bringing you my fav brunch spots in Atlanta and beyond (because brunch is universal) each week.
To kick everything off, I have one of my favorite places in the entire city- Barcelona Inman Park. (Locations in GA, CT, MA, TN, VA, DC)
An old boyfriend introduced me to Barcelona- we would go all the time when I first moved to the city, mostly with his family for dinner or for tapas and wine, late night. I was reluctant to go back… but my love for food trumps my love for any man, so when I was in the area after a wine tasting at Vintoeca, I pretty much ran (in heels and a dress, yes) across the street to try their brunch for the first time.
We sat outside because it was freaking BEAUTIFUL… and we all had new sunglasses to show off. We quickly ordered some champagne and beelined for the custom mimosa bar. You have a choice of juice, fresh fruit, herbs, syrups, and shrubs to mix in- talk about options, people! You can try as many different combinations as you want… but I like what I like, so when I hit a home run the first time with the peach juice, raspberries, and mint- I stuck with that.
What happened next was a blur and not because of the mimosas (ok, maybe a little from the mimosas) but mostly from the overload of flavor. (Some of this food porn may be NSFW, be warned.) Let’s just say we had absolutely no shame, ate a feast for ten men (there were three of us) and had literally no regrets.
I mean, look at that fried chicken and churros… probably in the running for best dish ever created. An unexpected twist on a southern classic- these were sticky, sinful and so damn good. We were fighting over the last bites. (Alec fights dirty and double fisted the churros, so yeah.)
You wouldn’t typically expect to see shrimp and grits on a Spanish/Mediterranean menu, but (at this point as I’m sure you can already tell) Barcelona is far from typical. You all know how I am about my shrimp and grits (and if you don’t, I’m basically addicted at this point), so I had to order some of those. WOW. The shrimp were plump, the grits were creamy and the flavors were perfectly balanced. I did not want to share, but obviously felt peer pressured, and everyone else loved them too.
All of our eggs were cooked perfectly, whether they were a part of the benedict or on top of the hash and the service was the best of the best, as always. We did not want for anything. Huge shout to the back patio squad for taking such great care of us as always.
If you really care about the quality of your experience as far as service, food/wine, and atmosphere- Barcelona Inman Park is it. I could (and willingly would) eat here for any/all meals of the day.
Check back next week as I dive into the Toast Brunch Series with Play ATL + Big Sky Buckhead!
